- The deadline for submission is March 17, 2010.
- Staff from the Arkansas Discovery Network will review the applications and select attendees.
- You will be notified by April 14 if you have been accepted to attend the Institute.
PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT send the application directly to the Exploratorium. You will not be considered part of the Arkansas Discovery Network class and will not receive the benefits the Network provides.
Is there anything to consider before I apply?
- You will reserve your own roundtrip flight. You may fly out of the airport that is most convenient for you. Save the receipt; you will be reimbursed up to $750.
- You will need to secure your own housing. Many locations in San Francisco rent by the month and can be found at http://www.exploratorium.edu/ti/housing/index.html.
- Before you leave for San Francisco, you will receive a check for your housing and daily meal allowance.
- The daily allowance is to cover meals and incidentals (tips, fees and mailing costs).
- One of the primary modes of transportation is your feet! Be prepared to walk a lot! (Veteran teachers suggest working out on a Stairmaster before you go!)
- San Francisco has a well-developed bus system. If you find housing that is not within walking distance to the Exploratorium, you can use the bus. Be aware that the bus rides can take up to one hour each way.
- There are many flowers blooming in the summer affecting those with allergies.
- Not all expenses are covered by the Network. Examples of these include mileage to and parking at the airport in Arkansas, shuttle transportation to and from the airport in San Francisco, bus transportation while in San Francisco, car rental and gas, cab fees, Laundromat fees and other expenses not mentioned in this letter. The amount of these expenses is dependent on the location and amenities of your lodging.
- In the past, teachers have collected materials that they have wanted to mail home for use during the next school year. Some have spent as little as $50, others as much as $200. This is not covered by the Network. Some school districts will pay for this expense if you plan to use the materials in your classroom (check with your science coordinator).
